Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to four term...

Okay, I know I wrote that posts would return on Monday, but here’s a quick one that is timely.

From my Great Aunt Hattie’s diary entry for November 21, 1940:

This is Nebraska’s Thanksgiving Day and 31 States in U.S.’s also. South Dakota’s will be next Thursday.
Transcribing the above entry made me curious as to why some states would celebrate Thanksgiving one week, and others the next.
The “Franksgiving” holiday from 1939-1941 was a controversial effort by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Frank’s giving) to bolster holiday shopping during the latter years of the Great Depression. History buffs may also enjoy Hattie’s thoughts on and response to Roosevelt’s death, which touched her deeply for many years after.
