Welcome to Day 17 of the July Intensity Project!

31 Days Toward Living with More Intensity & Creativity

“For the meaning of life differs from man to man, from day to day and from hour to hour. What matters, therefore, is not the meaning of life in general but rather the specific meaning of a person’s life at a given moment.” ~ Viktor E. Frankl

Today’s Intensity Project weekend assignment is simple, although not necessarily easy.

In his book Drive, Dan Pink talks about two questions that he says will change you life: “What is your sentence?” and “Was I better today than yesterday?” Watch a short video of his ideas:

For people whose intensity is either collapsed or out of control (as we discussed yesterday), honing in on one statement or purpose can help to bring our passions and drive back into focus.

In this video, Pink talks a bit more about the exercise, invites viewers to share their sentences, and offers his own:

I’d like to talk about Pink’s second question, “Was I better today than yesterday?” tomorrow. For today, let’s just spend some time thinking about what our sentence might be. Don’t feel you have to limit yourself to one. Try out several for size. Or perhaps think of the different sentences that have applied at different times in your life.

If your intensity is collapsed, creating or remembering your sentence(s) may re-energize you and give you purpose.

If your intensity is exaggerated, creating or remembering your sentence(s) may help you to trim what is unnecessary from your life  and direct your intensity toward areas that matter to you.

What is your sentence?
