Why do people blog?
There are many different reasons, of course, but, for many people, blogging is a fulfilling and challenging hobby. Like many other popular hobbies, blogging can be started inexpensively, is adaptable to one’s interest and skill levels, can be pursued with as little or as much zeal and professionalism as one wishes, and has a built-in community in which to share ideas and passions. As with other technology-related hobbies, such as geocaching or photography, blogging is a perfect 21st century hobby because new challenges and innovations are always just around the corner.
In addition to blogging as a hobby, many people enjoy regular blogging, podcast blogging, and video blogging about their hobbies, from genealogy to baking, hobby farms to knitting. If you want to try your hand at blogging as a hobby, don’t stress yourself out by thinking you have to follow all of the advice meant for professional bloggers about how often to post or how long your posts should be. Don’t worry about what your friends will think or how many subscribers you have. Do it for yourself and your own enjoyment. Just set a topic or theme, follow a schedule that works for you, dive in, and have fun!

Ami, I have to remind myself not to get too crazy about all of the (very good) advice “out there” for bloggers and to be sure that it doesn’t turn this wonderful activity into a chore or source of stress. Definitely continue to “do your own thing,” because it is working!
