I recently learned the origin of the word “pundit” from a book for which I was doing some editorial work, and when I did a web search to learn more, I found Charles Hodgson’s Podictionary, a terrific daily podcast (and text version) for word lovers.
While the entry for “pundit” was what drew me in, I soon found myself in a kerfuffle because I had much more work to do but kept discovered more words about which I had previously been nonplussed (Hodgson writes, “I chose nonplussed as today’s word to find out if there was a word plussed and what it might mean”).
I guess there are worse ways to procrastinate.
