With the Oscars only two weeks away, parents and teachers can tap into the movie buzz to add some learning variety at the end of a long winter. Do a web search for “lesson plans” and either “film study” or “movies.” Or check out one of these good resources:
- A New York Times Learning Network lesson plan that uses this year’s Up in the Air and is easily adaptable for homeschoolers and others: On the Scene: Analyzing Scenes in Film and Literature
- From the Washington Post, a curriculum guide for writing movie reviews using the first Harry Potter movie as an example.
- From PBS, a guide to Comparing Film Adaptations of Shakespeare.
- And from the National Endowment for the Humanities, a lesson on Adapting The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for a modern audience.
